I just like Muffins okay? Digital Media iz k3w1 t0o

DUDE BOB KING IS LITERALLY THE KING. What an awesome little self broadcast man, I really dug some of the stuff you were saying. Plus I just dig your style of speech and old-timey remixed with new-age lingo, it's a perfect balance. Now that that's out of the way. I have to say some of what you were saying was a little frightening. At times I felt as though you were pushing digitial media as an essential part to living in the modern world, rather than a tool that can be put in mankinds belt of tricks. True, we were bound to begin living as a race dependent on the desire for us all to connect. It was destined since the lightbulb, and as you say it is an electric current that will never stop pulsing now that it has been cultivated. Maybe I'm wary of the destruction it can bring to mankind. A good follow up is seen within Lev Manovich's translation of all existing media. There is a great deal to be said of the abstract world that digital media has begun breeding all of mankind. This dispels my freight and almost puts in a hint of creative spark. It's almost as though the shapes spaces and texts that are numerically placed together for our pleasure, or very well our pain. I love everything of what Lev continues to spell out though confusing and abstract as it becomes.
Charlie Chaplin is my man because I am incredibly pigeon toed. Theres something so true to be said of the insignifigant man trying to keep up with the bigger guy managing to overpower the small guy. It's really honest, the huge business man in his large room with dials and three course meal, sitting on his ass asking the little men to do a little bit more work than necessary. Sounds like Mark Zuckerberg?!!!!! It really angers me in the way that society in general has begun to be a huge desensitization of true substance in life. Yet, there is magic to be said for society coming together and pooling the ideas that are everywhere, it's such a real commitment to creation. Just as the Remix manifesto does, it's a huge clusterfuck of incredible mashups. Music creations and remix's are the most fascinating creation within the music world. Now I'm not a huge fan of the Atomic TOM and Do You Know, it all seems like a mechanized modernized mainstream muppets scared about the creation of differentiation and change. It's a living and breathing support system that....well supports itself, digital media that is. Pretty sure its not good or bad, it just cant be stopped so let's leave it and embrace when it needs embracing.

Boundry Dissoluffin(lution)

Digital Media has always been a confusing venue for me, it has often seemed a waste of time due to my mother complaining of my fathers time spent with technology. My Dad is a Global Operations manager for the Telecommunications company, so this article especially spoke to me. His inability to differentiate between time spent on the phone and time spent with the family, it has never been a problem. Rather a part of life that is just accepted, because after all it puts food on the table and gas in the car. Its a little bit of a disconnection but its an accepted disconnection, there is a blurred boundary and somehow that has been an okay part of the family. It no longer aggravates me because he has somewhat initially brought me into his world. Its something special, but at the same time it is something that draws a thick line in the sand for me. I have found art to be a home away from home, something my father does not particularly have an interest in. It seems as though technology is his life, and the dissolution is the difference for me. The fact that there is a clear venue for art, and the time to desensitize is easily found within my life of technology. It shall always be there just as art is, but more and more it becomes mechanized and unrealistically fanatical when time goes on. This can be seen within the articles, and if I revert away from my tangent, there is an uncanny sense of growth that moves along with this new wave of desensitized dissolution.
Once again, digital media shall continue to be a confusing venue for feelings and abstract thoughts. Just as art has become this same venue with a bit more purpose for me. The difference is the interaction draws its boundary at a computer screen, while the life of art is limited to human interaction (at least acting). While entertainment is being brought into the mix, it is becoming more clear that live performance is not so much of a rarity, as it is a common courtesy that can even be found in mass quantity. Digital Media is confusing THE PUBLIC, and helping dissolve boundaries set by the founding fathers of interaction. It's scary, or is it?

MuffINtellect

The power of creativity is seeded within a confessors true desire to confess what they believe to be true, or most of the time what they find to be completely silly and in need of expressing. Being Peace is an excellent example of what can ensue when there is a creative spark that cannot be suppressed nor pressed onto the minds of those reading, unless they truly analyze and contemplate what the collection of words mean to the reader. It is a testament to Thich Nhat Hanh's own personal discoveries. Each paragraph starts with what seems to be a secret code of discovery, a part of our lives as human beings that we hesitate to observe and are tentative to fix and or improve as time goes on. "We are so busy we hardly have time to look at the people we love" this is so simple, it almost sounds as if Henry David Thoreau writ it. I only say this because he goes on to making observances to meditation, and how it is an almost existential insight into the unknown that follows us as if it is a shadow unseen. This is the intellect that all humans should have, in my opinion, the world could very well be a better place if THIS was the INTER-national anthem. Of course, there would be nothing to complain about if such creativity was not sparked by the lack of intellect of others. Writers need substance to sustain their intellect and observance turned into creativity.

Moving on, the site given was INCREDIBLY interesting. Meeting Macomber: Remixing Intellect and Creativity really spoke to me. Being a person who has a strong affinity for music, I can see exactly how William Macomber can make statements with his mere appearance. It is a testament to the creative spark that of a musician posses, a combination of many elements. The style of which they play, whether their eyes are closed or open when singing, and whether they are willing to wear their heart on their sleeves no matter what the content of the arrangement calls for. I'm a huge fan of the photo on the google page on the far right in the second row of pictures, last column. The black and white photo of the simple man, with the creative intellect and spark in his eye.

"Engage in creative work intelligently, and engage in intellectual work creatively." (Media Studies: A field guide)

A friend and I shared an affinity for this quote, It seems to be a strong component of an actors work. An artist can live by many different rules but an actor must ENGAGE. That is a constant that shall never waver, you cannot sit back and paint the canvas unless you are engaged. Even those who seem to create effortlessly are so bound to their desire for creating. An actor shall be discouraged if they do not feel as though they have engaged themselves, at least a painter can restart. A performance is final, and complete engagement must be 100% evident. It is a complete commitment, and that is something our teachers speak of. You can have the imagination, but commitment takes years of intellectual farming. It seems as though we've only just begun, and some of us have been acting for quite some time.

Wiki-Leaks, The Cold War, The Warm Muffin

The Wiki-Leaks Cold War.

Astounding information regarding the constant flow of classified information from the website Wiki-Leaks, has rendered the 21st century politicians terrified and the general public curious. It is true that the website and its chief editor Julian Assange is wreaking havoc on the privacy of government-information from countries such as Europe, United States, Taiwan, East Asia, Australia, and the list drones on in disbelief. The slogan of the non-profit orginization reads “We Open Governments”. Doing their business in an underground Cold War styled bunker, Wiki-Leaks has created a truly diabolical network of relationships to VIP’s with secret information all around the world.
What makes the diabolical even more of a debacle, is the powerlessness of the government in combating the huge strides made by Julian Assange in gathering new important information. Students at Columbia University looking for federal jobs advised not to “go talking about the WikiLeaks cables on the Web”. So just why can’t the political agenda of all the countries affected by the website focus in on taking Assange down? Noted on the website, Asange has installed is “Military-grade encryption” making it equally as hard for the most skilled computer hackers to infiltrate the web channels. Currently as the work progresses to decipher how to go about disarming Assange and the organization, it would almost seem that little is being done to crush the site at this very moment. This may be due to the little media coverage after the wake of Iran war documents gathered by the website. The political back-off in media incites nothing about the effort to counteract the organization. The U.S. has tried to contain the damage from Wiki-leaks after its release of 272 diplomatic cables from a plethora of many more. Sensitivity of these cables, interactions between countries on important political issues, is dire and has great effect on the war-torn countries the U.S. and other regions are involved with. After the cables were released, Islamabad Pakistan newspapers were flooded with Wiki-Leaks, and stayed that for weeks and months after the fact.
The government may not be “rendered powerless” at this moment in time. It can be said however, that the security wrapped around the enigma of Julian Assange and his crew of dastardly doers is of the same caliber as the U.S. military. I as a student of the 21st century can see how fathomable it is for there to be an online superpower. Knowing the power of the Internet for a long time, I’ve grown up in a family in which support comes from a father working with computers all day. For most people in the world, some of these advances made by Wiki-Leaks is not feasible. He is truly fighting fire with fire when gathering the information. By putting up a firewall as strong as the most powerful government in the world, you’ve gotta be doing something right. What has fascinated me greatly is the space he is working in too. A cold war bunker is so perfect for the online warfare being done. In reality the cold war was just the beginning of inter-web advances, an arms race in which we were never face to face with the enemy, but we knew through reconnaissance that they could be growing in strength. The problem that is faced now, is a question of whether or not the countries of the world affected by this online-disease come together and try to dismantle the establishment Julian Assange has made.

Does TRON Taste Like Muffins?!

After having been thoroughly disappointed with the Disney version of the classic game-turned-movie TRON, I was pleased to see it was a requirement to view the original film for class. Many similarities can be seen within TRON and Wiki-Leaks oddly enough, it almost seems as though they were made for one another. TRON leads a journey of infiltration of a single truth teller into a gigantic corporation in order to have a leak of information into the non-cyber world. Oddly enough, I felt a completely separate message when viewing the new TRON. The hero was very hard to connect to and if anything the movie was just a visual stimulus. Wiki-Leaks is improving on a daily basis just as the special effects for movies are as well. Easily enough, Julian Assange is a complete replica of Flynn from TRON.

Sounds like muffins?

DMA Project by stampybrown

After going through the steps necessary to create the sound clip, I realized I wanted a few things to be primary to the listener. First was the necessity of originality, the song backing the audio clips is a composition of mine made in logic. The song is in 6/4, an obscure time signature that gives off the idea of raw discombobulation. Following that element, I used an initial speech of Obama speaking of technology. He oddly uses some of the same lingo that Julian Assange outlines on the Wiki-Leaks mission statement. Newscasters then supported that irony with their own disclosure of what the world needs to hear, which is in truth a containment of exactly what is occurring with the leaks. Juxtaposing the liberal 60 Minutes segment on Assange with a Bill O'Reilly freak out. Finishing the piece with Assange explaining that "Patient Documents" are private, justifying his approach to leaking all his government information to the public. I tried to keep the clip humorous to the best of my ability, I'm a very big fan of Bill O'Reillys freak out in the earlier half of his career (prior to balding!) "FUCKIN THING....$%@ SUCKS!"

Imagi-muffination

When approaching the collection of images to transcend the message of "Wiki-Leaks WWIII", I strived for balance and organized chaos. That is what comes to mind when examining the political brouhaha caused over Wiki-Leaks unhealthy consumption of political documents as if it was fast food. Focusing on that idea of collecting, I tried to contain as many political flags as I researched to be ingredients in the Stew-de la-Assange. This then brought out the idea of a Third World War. Using images of the tanks to represent a sense of timelessness, all pointed towards the ACTUAL BUNKER in which Wiki-Leaks performs its dirty deeds. Note: Bunker is somewhat a form of Cold War militia used for computed warfare. Finally bringing attention to the forcefield around the infamous face of the wizard himself, Julian Assange. An important factor being the forcefield, regarding the technology that can withstand the breaching of firewalls encoded with the same level of security that of the most advanced tech-savy U.S. Military equipment. In total the thematic elements of my image zone in on the Political Science and the elements of warfare Wiki-Leaks has so delicately crafted in the modern world.
